Why Does Android Recommend Disabling Battery Optimization?

To extend battery life, some Android phones restrict or stop apps that run in the background for long periods. For a location-sharing app, this can cause location updates to stop after the screen locks, the update interval to grow noticeably longer, or the foreground service to be terminated by the system.
Excluding cMe from strict battery optimization doesn't mean the app will keep using GPS continuously at the highest frequency. cMe still optimizes location updates based on movement state and runtime conditions.
Recommended Settings
Exact menu names vary by phone brand and Android version, but you'll typically want to check:
- "Battery" or "App Power Management" in system settings.
- Find cMe.
- Choose "Unrestricted," "Allow background activity," or a similarly named option.
- If your phone offers auto-start management, allow cMe to auto-start.
- If the system offers a background-running permission, allow cMe to run in the background.
- Avoid using system cleanup tools to frequently force-stop cMe.
How to Confirm the Setting Worked
Lock your screen, move around normally for a while, and have group members check whether your location is still updating. Since updates are adjusted based on movement and system conditions, don't use second-by-second changes as your benchmark.
