Why Does cMe Need Background Location Permission?
Category: System Requirements & Permissions
Platforms: Android / iPhone (coming soon)
cMe needs background location permission so it can keep sharing the location you've already turned on when your phone is locked, you switch to another app, or cMe isn't in the foreground.
If you only allow location access while using the app, location updates may slow down or stop once you leave cMe, and other members will see an older location.
Android
Requirements for background location, foreground services, and battery management differ across Android versions and phone brands. In addition to the location permission, some devices also need:
- Background location access allowed;
- Background running allowed;
- Auto-start allowed;
- cMe excluded from strict battery optimization;
- The system-required foreground service notification kept in place.
iPhone
Background location on iPhone is managed by iOS. To improve the stability of locked-screen and background sharing, grant the appropriate location permission from the options the system offers, and turn on Precise Location. Some iOS versions may require you to first allow "While Using the App," then later adjust the setting in system settings to one better suited for continuous sharing.
You're Still in Control
Background location permission doesn't automatically expose your location to everyone. Only authorized members can see your location, and only once you've joined a group and turned on sharing for it. You can turn off group sharing or change system permissions at any time.
Note
If you turn off background location permission, cMe may still get your location in the foreground, but the stability of sharing after the screen locks or you leave the app will decrease.
